Chania workers call for pan-Chania health rally

Hotel workers in Chania, represented by the Taxiki Enotita, have announced a large-scale pan-Chania rally for health scheduled for Friday, October 30, 2026. The group expressed solidarity with medical staff at Chania General Hospital following a recent dispute where the 7th Health Region (YPE) attempted to transfer a doctor from the Chania ICU to Rethymno Hospital.

The workers' group successfully pressured the 7th YPE to withdraw the transfer order. In their call to action, the hotel employees criticized the underfunding of public health and the commodification of medical services. They are demanding mass recruitment of medical, nursing, administrative, and technical staff to fully staff the Chania General Hospital, as well as an end to forced staff transfers.
