Patrick Bruel faces multiple sexual assault accusations and concert bans

French singer‑actor Patrick Bruel is accused of a series of sexual assaults. More than thirty women, including Miss Alsace 2007 Florima Treiber, have spoken publicly, describing incidents that they say amount to rape or coercion. Former TV host Flavie Flament also filed a complaint alleging a 1991 assault when she was 16. French and Belgian prosecutors have opened at least four investigations into Bruel for rape, attempted rape and sexual aggression.

The allegations have triggered political and cultural reactions. Mayors of Paris and Marseille, as well as members of the French National Assembly, have called for the cancellation of his upcoming tour, which is due to begin in mid‑June across France, Switzerland, Belgium and Canada. A petition demanding the tour’s termination has gathered tens of thousands of signatures.

Swiss organizers of the Paléo Festival in Nyon announced they will permanently exclude Bruel from future line‑ups after a 2019 complaint by a volunteer masseuse was deemed “unacceptable.” The festival said a confidential settlement was reached in 2022 and that Bruel paid compensation to a women’s association. Several of his Canadian concert dates have already been cancelled.

Bruel maintains his innocence, citing the presumption of innocence and refusing to halt his performances until the courts render a verdict. Critics argue that continuing to book him endangers the livelihoods of venue staff, technicians and other workers who depend on his shows.
