Chantal Toledo visits former Peruvian President Alejandro Toledo in prison

Chantal Toledo, the eldest daughter of former Peruvian President Alejandro Toledo and former First Lady Eliane Karp, visited her father at the Barbadillo prison on Sunday, October 18. This marks her first visit to the country in 15 years since residing in the United States.

The visit occurred as Toledo’s legal team manages a request for a humanitarian pardon due to his declining health. The government of President Keiko Fujimori has announced it will evaluate the request. Alejandro Toledo is currently serving sentences for two corruption cases, including a 13-year and 4-month sentence for money laundering related to the Ecoteva case.

This follows a previous visit earlier this year by Toledo’s other daughter, Zaraí Toledo Orozco. Zaraí, a university professor, was legally recognized by Toledo in 2002 following a long legal dispute regarding his paternity.
