Chanterelle mushroom prices rise to 140 zł per kilogram in early Polish season

Polish retailers are selling chanterelle mushrooms (kurki) at unusually high prices as the early season begins. Lidl's stock was imported from Bulgaria and priced around 140 zł per kilogram, while Biedronka offered the mushrooms only in select outlets at a similar price. Aldi introduced them a few days later at a slightly lower 115 zł per kilogram. Prices at street stalls also exceed 100 zł per kilogram. The cost is driven by limited early‑season supply, weather conditions that affect mushroom growth, and the labor required to clean the mushrooms. Last year’s peak‑season price at Lidl was about 125 zł per kilogram, with market prices ranging from 30 to 65 zł depending on quality and weather.

Consumers are responding by considering pre‑order arrangements and delayed‑payment deals, with some sellers offering mushrooms for 50 zł per kilogram to be harvested later in the season.
