Chapala prepares festivities for Día de Muertos

Chapala, Jalisco, is preparing a series of activities to celebrate Día de Muertos from October 29 to November 2. Mayor Alejandro Aguirre announced that the festivities will include a parade of decorated and illuminated boats on the lake, traveling from Parque de la Cristianía toward La Vela during sunset.

A large altar is planned near Jesús Pescador, supplemented by altars created by students from the Universidad de Guadalajara and other local educational institutions. The program is expected to feature artistic performances and concerts, with international influencers also anticipated to visit the municipality.

Deeply rooted in Mesoamerican ritual and Catholic faith, Día de Muertos serves as a period of remembrance where families honor the souls of the departed. While the primary celebrations occur on November 1 and 2, the tradition encompasses a broader period of honoring various souls, including children, adults, and pets.
