Chapecó implements Spanish weather alerts and reports airport growth

The city of Chapecó in Santa Catarina, Brazil, is implementing new measures to improve communication and infrastructure. The local Civil Defense has begun issuing meteorological alerts in Spanish to better serve the approximately 20,000 Venezuelan immigrants living in the municipality. This initiative aims to overcome language barriers and help residents understand regional weather phenomena, particularly following forecasts for heavy rainfall.

Simultaneously, the Serafim Enoss Bertaso Airport in Chapecó has reported significant growth. Data from the concessionaire Voe Xap shows that between January and July 2026, the airport handled 388,558 passengers, marking a 10.7% increase compared to the same period in 2025. Regular flight operations also saw a rise of nearly 3%, with March 2026 recorded as the busiest month for the terminal.
