Chapecoense honors victims 10 years after plane crash in Colombia

To mark the tenth anniversary of the 2016 plane crash that killed 71 people, Chapecoense representatives visited the crash site at Cerro Gordo in La Unión, Colombia. Among those present was survivor and former defender Hélio Neto, who returned to the site for the third time.

During the visit, a mural featuring photographs of the victims and the inscription ‘Campeões do céu’ was unveiled, and the club announced the inauguration of a monument engraved with the names of the deceased.

In Medellín, Atlético Nacional hosted Chapecoense for the ‘Leyendas’ event, where officials and football figures, including René Higuita, honored the bond between the two clubs. The ceremony included the unveiling of a thematic wall dedicated to the brotherhood between the institutions and the exchange of commemorative frames.

The commemorations precede the ‘Jogo da Amizade Eterna’ (Eternal Friendship Match), a friendly game between Chapecoense and Atlético Nacional scheduled to take place at the Atanasio Girardot Stadium.
