Chapecoense midfielder Max Alves undergoes surgery after severe chest injury

Chapecoense midfielder Max Alves underwent surgery on Sunday following a severe chest trauma sustained during a match against Coritiba in the Brazilian Championship. The injury occurred during the first half when Alves lost his balance and collided with Bruno Melo.

Medical examinations revealed multiple rib fractures, a lung contusion, and a pneumothorax. Alves was treated on the field before being transferred to a hospital in Curitiba, where he spent a night in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and underwent a procedure to insert a chest drain.

The 25-year-old player, who joined Chapecoense on loan from Cuiabá in June, remains hospitalized under the supervision of club staff. There is currently no estimated timeline for his discharge or return to training, as his recovery depends on his clinical evolution.
