Chaplains for African Anglophone communities meet in Rome
On October 20, 2026, the annual meeting of chaplains serving African Anglophone communities was held at the Fondazione Migrantes headquarters in Rome. The group consists of 30 chaplains responsible for 37 communities across Italy.
National coordinator Don Cyriacus Ugonna M. Elelleh led the meeting, addressing the challenges of providing spiritual guidance to individuals who have often fled poverty and experienced significant hardship. He emphasized the role of chaplains in helping migrants navigate their new cultural surroundings while maintaining their religious identity through the Gospel and catechesis.
The meeting was attended by Monsignor Pierpaolo Felicolo, General Director of the Fondazione Migrantes, and Don Valerio Bersano, Deputy Director. This gathering follows the presentation of the 35th Caritas-Migrantes Immigration Report, which included the first reasoned census of non-Italian priests and religious figures living in Italy.
