Chapman University establishes scholarship for reporter Eliana Moreno

Chapman University has established a scholarship fund in memory of Eliana Moreno, the NBC4 reporter who died in a helicopter crash in Chatsworth on September 15. The fund will support students at the Dodge College of Film and Media Arts, honoring Moreno’s legacy as a Chapman alumna from the class of 2010.

Moreno, 38, was a veteran journalist and the only Hispanic bilingual helicopter reporter and camera operator in the country. She was killed alongside pilot George Marciniw when the NewsChopper4 helicopter crashed while covering a deadly Metro bus collision. A third person, identified as 29-year-old Edy Gutierrez Mejia, also died in the incident. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
