Character-themed pop-up shops launch in Kyoto and Kanagawa

Various limited-time pop-up shops featuring character and literature collaborations are currently operating in Japan.

At JR Kyoto Station, the Chiikawa Bakery is hosting a pop-up shop until September 9. The event features a collaboration with Kyoto confectioner Bijyu, offering a special “Fuwa Fuwa Otabe Caramel” product. This limited edition item combines the popular Chiikawa character theme with traditional Kyoto yatsuhashi, featuring a soft, cloud-like texture. Social media users have highly praised the product, with many requesting its permanent release.

In Kanagawa, Cake. jp is launching a “Masterpiece Picture Book Cookie Tin Selection” pop-up store at Tama Plaza Terrace from September 1 to September 15. The event features original cookie tins and sandwiches inspired by popular children's books such as “The Very Hungry Caterpillar,” “Paddington,” and “The Pan Thief.” These sweets are designed with high-quality ingredients and decorative tins intended to be reused as storage containers.
