Charité Berlin coordinates GUIDE-AI project for medical AI

The GUIDE-AI project, coordinated by Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin under the leadership of Dr. Matthias Gröschel, is addressing the challenge of making medical knowledge actionable in clinical settings. Funded by the Innovative Health Initiative, this European consortium focuses on ensuring that artificial intelligence in medicine prioritizes safety, clinical evidence, and traceable decision-making over mere efficiency.

Unlike standard software development, medical AI must navigate strict requirements including the Medical Device Regulation, the European AI Act, data protection, and cybersecurity. The project aims to provide reliable orientation for clinicians, particularly when managing complex cases such as heart failure, chronic kidney disease, COPD, asthma, or cancer, where updated guidelines and vast amounts of information must be integrated into daily practice.
