Digital health tools enhance patient monitoring and care

Recent medical developments highlight the growing role of digital tools in patient care. A study by Charité Berlin, published in JAMA Oncology, examined the impact of app-based monitoring (PRO-B) on 909 women with metastatic breast cancer. The four-year study, conducted between 2020 and 2024, found that continuous digital symptom tracking helped alleviate fatigue and improved overall physical function in patients.

In another application of digital health, Krankenhaus Braunau in Austria is expanding its telemedicine services for patients with pacemakers and defibrillators. The system allows medical devices to transmit data regarding rhythm disturbances and device functionality directly to specialists. This remote monitoring reduces the need for in-person outpatient appointments, providing increased security and convenience, particularly for elderly patients or those with limited mobility.
