Charitable winter clothing drives in Argentine Patagonia aid residents

Volunteer groups in Argentine Patagonia are organising winter relief campaigns to provide blankets, coats and other warm items for the most vulnerable. The Catholic charity Cáritas runs the "Una frazada para mi hermano" project with around a dozen regular volunteers; they have recently delivered quilts to a home for 26 elderly residents and donated clothing and footwear to the Santa Rita chapel for distribution to families in need.

In Río Gallegos, the neighbourhood organisation Ayudar operates a community kitchen and is pleading for heavy clothing, shoes and solid fuel as severe winter weather hits. Volunteers report that many families lack gas service and rely on wood or coal for heating, while state assistance has been limited. They are coordinating local donations to secure blankets and footwear for children and adults, stressing that "the winter is very harsh" and that immediate help is needed.

Both initiatives highlight community solidarity in the face of harsh winter conditions in southern Argentina.
