Charity 'Tour der Hoffnung' bike ride launches in Gießen
On Thursday, 6 August, the 44th edition of the Tour der Hoffnung set off from the Stadtwerke AG in Gießen. About 160 cyclists rode more than 250 km over three stages, raising funds for the treatment and care of children with cancer and for related research.
The route crossed central Hesse, Saxony‑Anhalt and Saxony, beginning with a 59‑km leg through Gießen, Heuchelheim, Lollar and Lich, before a second, longest stage of over 110 km from Magdeburg to Halle. The final 83‑km stretch led from Halle through Merseburg, Leuna and Lützen to the children’s oncology department of the University Hospital Leipzig, where the tour concluded.
Prominent supporters such as former football coach Felix Magath, boxing world champion Henry Maske and several Olympic medalists joined the event. The entire course was approved by the Regierungspräsidium Gießen after coordination with local authorities and police.
