Charlamagne Tha God criticizes celebrity tributes to Dolly Parton

Radio host Charlamagne Tha God criticized the nature of celebrity tributes following the death of country music icon Dolly Parton. During an episode of ‘The Breakfast Club’, he argued that some public figures are using the occasion to highlight personal anecdotes rather than celebrating Parton’s life and legacy. “I’m sick of people making people’s death about them,” he stated, noting that the focus often shifts to personal interactions instead of the deceased's impact.

Parton passed away at age 80 at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center after a brief battle with cancer. While Charlamagne expressed frustration with the tributes, he also honored Parton, describing her as a star who “transcends every race, every demographic, every age.”

In lieu of flowers, Parton’s family has requested that fans donate to her Imagination Library, a free book-gifting program. Her passing has prompted widespread tributes from various artists, including Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, and Eminem.
