Charles Alloncle reveals Mediawan's foreign ownership and inquiry pressures

Charles Alloncle has released a book detailing the intense pressures and behind-the-scenes conflicts faced during a recent investigative commission regarding public broadcasting. Alloncle claims he faced threats, surveillance, and intimidation from various actors as his investigations progressed.

A central revelation in the book concerns the ownership structure of Mediawan, a major media group and primary beneficiary of France Télévisions contracts. Alloncle asserts that American capital accounts for nearly 70% of Mediawan's ownership. Specifically, the American fund KKR reportedly holds a 52.7% majority stake, alongside other US entities such as Providence Equity and North Road.

This revelation regarding foreign ownership could have significant legal and financial implications. Mediawan may face challenges regarding its eligibility for hundreds of millions of euros in French public subsidies and contracts intended to support independent French production. Producer unions have already initiated legal action regarding this issue.
