Charles Barkley criticizes Donald Trump over impact on racial discourse
NBA legend Charles Barkley has criticized Donald Trump, claiming the former president has made it “comfortable to be racist” in the United States. Speaking on ‘The Chris Cuomo Project’ podcast, Barkley argued that while racism has always existed, Trump has removed the social consequences, allowing people to express it openly rather than hiding it.
Barkley also addressed what he perceives as a double standard regarding how political figures are held accountable. He suggested that if former President Barack Obama had addressed a female reporter with derogatory terms, such as “Miss Piggy,” there would have been significantly more public outrage. Barkley attributed Trump’s ability to avoid similar consequences to his support from wealthy individuals and billionaires who prioritize financial interests.
Additionally, Barkley expressed disappointment toward Black supporters of Trump, specifically criticizing those who wear merchandise featuring Trump’s 2023 mugshot from Fulton County, Georgia.
