Charles Bukowski's 'South of No North' released anew in Hungarian

After nearly a decade and a half of scarcity, Trubadúr Könyvek has reissued Charles Bukowski's 1973 short‑story collection South of No North: Stories of the Buried Life in Hungarian. The volume, first published in Hungary in 2009, had become hard to obtain, and the new edition continues the publisher's effort to bring Bukowski’s work to Hungarian readers, following the recent release of his poetry collection Vízben égni, tűzbe fulladni.

The stories portray the lives of society’s marginalised – alcoholics, casual labourers, gamblers, lonely women and perpetual losers – through Bukowski’s alter‑ego Henry Chinaski. Themes of loneliness, existential uncertainty and alcoholism are presented in the author’s characteristic raw, candid style, which remains resonant for contemporary readers.
