Charles Emory Jr. appointed director of Delaware POST Commission

The Delaware Department of Safety and Homeland Security has appointed Charles B. Emory Jr. as the new director of the Police Officer Standards and Training Commission (POST). The commission is responsible for overseeing training and standards for all police officers within the state of Delaware.

Emory brings nearly 30 years of law enforcement and executive leadership experience to the role. He previously spent 28 years with the Wilmington Police Department, where he rose from patrol officer to inspector and managed various divisions, including operations, administration, and training. Most recently, he served as an investigator for POST and as the administrator of the Delaware Police Accreditation Commission.

Emory succeeds the commission’s first executive director, Sean Moriarty. The POST commission was established by House Bill 206 in 2023, replacing the former Council on Police Training with expanded powers and duties.
