Monaco Grand Prix qualifying: Antonelli on pole, Colapinto 14th, Leclerc cites Ferrari woes

Andrea Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes) secured pole position for the Monaco Grand Prix with a 1:12.051 lap, edging Max Verstappen by 0.043 seconds. Lewis Hamilton qualified third and Charles Leclerc fourth. Franco Colapinto (Alpine) was eliminated in Q2, posting a 1:14.573 and will start the race from 14th on the grid. Colapinto struggled with brake lock‑ups, a lack of confidence in the Alpine A526, a spin that damaged the rear wing and several minor wall contacts during practice and qualifying.

Leclerc admitted that his Ferrari remains unpredictable, especially in braking performance, a problem he traced back to the Canadian Grand Prix. He said the car offers “extreme inconsistency” and that the team has a solution but chose not to try it at Monaco. Meanwhile, Ferrari team principal Mattia Vasseur was hospitalized during the weekend, prompting a team statement wishing him a speedy recovery.

The qualifying session highlighted the difficulty of the narrow Monte‑Carlo street circuit, where overtaking is limited and drivers rely heavily on a strong grid position.
