Charles Leclerc cites technical regulations and pure performance as Ferrari challenges

Formula 1 driver Charles Leclerc has identified technical regulations and a lack of pure performance as the primary obstacles facing Ferrari. Leclerc noted that the 2026 technical changes have made it difficult to adapt to the SF-26, as the car's complex power unit systems struggle to respond to driver inputs, leading to lost time during qualifying sessions.

Leclerc also addressed upcoming aerodynamic upgrades in Austin, including a new floor and modifications to the radiator inlets and sidepods. Despite these changes, he expressed skepticism that such adjustments will bridge the gap to competitors, stating that the car's fundamental performance level remains behind the field. While the team maintains a strong simulator correlation and good car balance, Leclerc noted that rivals appear to possess superior engine modes that provide an advantage during qualifying.
