Charles Leclerc urges Ferrari to accelerate upgrades for F1 title race

Charles Leclerc has called for Ferrari to maintain an aggressive technical upgrade strategy to remain competitive in the intensifying 2026 Formula 1 championship battle. While Ferrari currently trails Mercedes by 72 points, the team has shown significant recent momentum, outperforming the reigning champions in four of the last five races and securing victories at the Spanish and British Grands Prix.

Leclerc emphasized that the current development race is more critical than in previous seasons, noting that every upgrade provides a substantial leap forward. He cited McLaren’s recent progress as a benchmark for the level of development required to close the gap to the leaders.

Regarding the technical complexities of the 2026 car regulations, Leclerc expressed an “open-minded” approach to the new power units. He noted that the increased number of variables makes performance analysis more difficult than in the past, as changes in driving style can sometimes conflict with vehicle programming.
