Charles Leclerc warns Mercedes remains a threat in F1
Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc has expressed caution regarding Mercedes' potential to regain their competitive edge in Formula 1. While Mercedes dominated the early season by winning the first six Grand Prix, their advantage has diminished as Ferrari and McLaren have begun to close the gap.
In the last six races, Ferrari and McLaren have each secured two victories, signaling a tightening hierarchy. Despite Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff suggesting the team may lack the financial resources to continue developing their current car at the same pace, Leclerc remains skeptical that the team will remain inactive.
Leclerc stated, “I am almost certain they are not just there to relax, watch the races and enjoy the situation.” He noted that while it is unclear whether Mercedes is focusing its budget on next year's car or a mid-season update, he expects significant work to be happening behind the scenes at Brackley.
