Charles Schwab executive identifies shift in crypto market cycle
Jim Ferraioli, Head of Crypto Research at Charles Schwab, has stated that the current cryptocurrency market cycle is fundamentally different from previous periods. He attributes this shift to Wall Street institutions moving beyond simply offering investment products to integrating blockchain technology directly into their financial infrastructure.
While cryptocurrency remains a small portion of Charles Schwab’s $13 trillion in client assets, Ferraioli noted that the firm’s clients hold approximately 20% of the assets in spot crypto ETFs, signaling significant institutional interest. He argued that the convergence of traditional finance and decentralized finance has officially begun.
A key driver of this new cycle is the rapid growth in the tokenization of real-world assets. Ferraioli reported that approximately $50 billion worth of real-world assets have been tokenized across various blockchain networks. He suggested that even during price fluctuations, the sector can be viewed as being in a “bull market” due to this structural integration.
