Charles Spencer to release memoir about Princess Diana

Charles Spencer, the 9th Earl Spencer, has announced the upcoming release of his new memoir, ‘Swan Song: Diana, My Sister’. Scheduled for publication on 22 September 2026, the book is described as his most personal work to date.

The memoir, published by Penguin Michael Joseph in Britain and Penguin Press in the United States, focuses on the author's relationship with his late sister, Princess Diana. It aims to provide a brother's perspective on her life, covering their shared childhood and the week of her death. Spencer noted that he recorded the audiobook over a three-day period, expressing a conviction that his sister ‘would, I reckon, have approved of every word’.

Spencer stated that the decision to write the book was prompted by an increase in interview requests as the 30th anniversary of Diana's death approaches. He intends for the book to serve as a positive tribute to her character and to offer insight into who she was beyond her public image.
