Charleston allocates $540,000 in opioid settlement funds to local treatment groups

The city of Charleston, West Virginia, is utilizing opioid settlement funds to support local addiction treatment initiatives. In December 2025, the city committed $540,000 to 14 different treatment programs.

In partnership with the United Way of Central West Virginia and the city’s Opioid Community Council, the funds are being used to vet and administer grants to non-profit organizations. By the midpoint of 2026, these awarded funds helped reach 1,419 individuals, consisting of 1,300 adults and 119 children.

Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin noted that while the city’s Coordinated Addiction Response Effort (CARE) team continues to connect residents to services, these grants allow the city to support local entities that facilitate direct community impact. One recipient, the Kanawha Valley Fellowship Home, has used previous funding to expand its sober living operations and offset service expenses.
