Charleston Battery defeat Rhode Island FC in USL Championship playoffs

Charleston Battery advanced to the USL Championship Conference Semifinals after defeating Rhode Island FC 5-4 in a penalty shootout during the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. The match, held at Patriots Point, saw Rhode Island FC lead for much of the game after Jojea Kwizera scored a penalty in the 28th minute.

Rhode Island FC appeared to be on the verge of victory until Miguel Berry scored an equalizer in the fourth minute of second-half stoppage time, forcing extra time. Despite Rhode Island FC outshooting Charleston in extra time, the Battery secured the win in sudden death during the shootout. This marks the second consecutive year that Rhode Island FC has been eliminated by Charleston in the postseason via penalties.
