Charleston horse carriage accident injures two

A horse‑drawn carriage in downtown Charleston, South Carolina, collided with a parked vehicle near the intersection of Cumberland and Church streets on Monday morning. The carriage operator and a passenger were thrown from the carriage and transported to a hospital for treatment; other passengers were unharmed. The horse, named Howard, was startled by an approaching truck, sustained no injuries, and is being held at the barn while the incident is reviewed. The City of Charleston issued a statement confirming the injuries, thanking emergency responders, and saying it will not speculate on the cause pending investigation.

Palmetto Carriage Works, the tour operator, confirmed Howard’s condition and noted that the horse will not conduct tours until the review is complete. The accident follows a fatal horse‑carriage incident that occurred months earlier in New York City.
