Charlestown carnival parade in Cornwall draws thousands of spectators

Thousands of people gathered in Charlestown, near St Austell in Cornwall, to watch the carnival parade on Thursday, 30 July, part of Charlestown Regatta Week. The St Austell Town Band led the procession, which featured a floral dance, and later performed on the Regatta Field before a fireworks display concluded the day.

The event, supported by local sponsors and volunteers, also highlighted community fundraising, with over £30,000 donated in the past five years to charities such as Children’s Hospice South West, the National Coastguard Institution, the RNLI and the Cornish Barbarians. The week ended with an open‑air music evening called Regatta Rocks on Friday night.
