Charli XCX joins The Strokes for surprise performance at Outside Lands

Charli XCX made several surprise appearances during the Outside Lands festival in San Francisco. After headlining the festival on Friday, August 7, 2026, she joined alt-rock band The Strokes during their set on Saturday, August 8.

During the collaboration, The Strokes' frontman Julian Casablancas introduced her as a “superstar” and jokingly referenced the commercial competition between their respective new albums, which were both released on July 24. Casablancas noted that Charli XCX “won by a lot” in terms of album sales. The two artists performed “Take It Or Leave It,” a track from The Strokes' 2001 debut album, “Is This It.”

Additionally, Charli XCX appeared during a set by Djo (actor Joe Keery), making a video cameo on screen to pretend she was leaving him a voicemail regarding his song “Charlie’s Garden.”
