Charli XCX Says She Is in Her Worst Mental State Ahead of New Album Release
British pop vocalist Charli XCX told Rolling Stone that she is “mentally in the worst place” she has ever been, noting she has become “a lot more offline” to protect her brain. She linked her struggles to the pressure of social media and the expectations surrounding her upcoming seventh album, scheduled for release on July 24, which will include the singles “Rock Music” and “SS26.”
Charli said she deliberately wants the new record to differ from her 2024 album Brat, which reached No. 3 on the Billboard 200, sold over six million equivalent units worldwide and earned three Grammys. She described therapy as important but inconsistent, and mentioned receiving support from fellow musician Matt Healy. In addition to the album, Charli will headline the Reading & Leeds festivals in late August.
