Charlie Dean appointed England Women's ODI captain for Ireland series

Charlie Dean has been appointed captain of the England Women's cricket team for an upcoming three-match One Day International (ODI) series against Ireland in September. This marks Dean's second stint in a leadership role following her captaincy during a series against New Zealand earlier this year.

The 15-player squad features a mix of experienced players and emerging talent. Senior players Nat Sciver-Brunt and Danni Wyatt-Hodge will miss the series to focus on fitness and recovery. Other notable absences include Sophie Ecclestone, Lauren Bell, and Amy Jones. In Jones's absence, Alice Capsey is expected to take over wicketkeeping duties.

The squad includes uncapped players Grace Potts and Kira Chathli, as well as Charis Pavely, who is seeking her ODI debut. Ryana MacDonald-Gay also returns to the squad after recovering from a lower back injury.

Head coach Charlotte Edwards noted that while much of the recent focus has been on T20 cricket, this series provides an opportunity for players to demonstrate their 50-over skills and gain valuable experience. The matches are scheduled for September 1, 3, and 6.
