Popstars returns to Telefe with high ratings and new jury

The musical reality show Popstars returned to Argentine television on Telefe after 25 years. Hosted by Nicolás Vázquez, the premiere focused on a massive selection process where approximately 3,000 contestants were chosen from over 15,000 applicants to participate in in-person auditions at Parque Roca.

The judging panel includes urban artist Nicki Nicole, singer Ángela Torres, and Mexican music executive Carlos “Charlie” García, who serves as the Vice President of A&R at Sony Music Mexico. The show also features influencer Martín Cirio in a spiritual coach role and Sofía “La Reini” Gonet managing digital content.

In terms of viewership, the debut was a success for Telefe, leading the prime-time ratings with scores oscillating between 10 and 11.9 points, significantly outperforming its direct competitor, Es mi sueño, on El Trece. Notable moments from the premiere included the audition of Valentina Pergolini, daughter of media figure Mario Pergolini, who successfully advanced to the next stage.
