Charlie Hunnam reflects on ‘Queer as Folk’ and new role in ‘Monster’
Actor Charlie Hunnam has reflected on his early career role in the groundbreaking series ‘Queer as Folk’. As the show approaches its 30th anniversary, Hunnam recalled playing 15-year-old Nathan Maloney in the 1999 UK production, noting that the series helped spark important discourse regarding equality between gay and heterosexual populations.
Hunnam is currently working with Ryan Murphy on the true-crime series ‘Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story’. In this production, Hunnam portrays Andrew Borden, the abusive and manipulative father of Lizzie Borden. The series is expected to explore Lizzie Borden’s queerness and her rumored relationship with the family maid, Bridget Sullivan, within the context of a dysfunctional family dynamic.
