Charlie Kirk murder hearing begins July 6 in Utah

A week‑long preliminary hearing in the murder case of conservative activist Charlie Kirk is set to start on July 6 in Provo, Utah. Prosecutors aim to demonstrate enough evidence to advance the case to trial and have indicated they will seek the death penalty if the accused, 23‑year‑old Tyler Robinson, is convicted of aggravated murder.

Kirk’s parents, Robert and Kathryn, and his widow, Erika Kirk—who now leads Turning Point USA—plan to attend the hearing, marking the first time the family will be present alongside the defendant. Authorities say DNA matching Robinson was found on the rifle’s trigger, cartridge casings and a towel used to wrap the weapon, and they intend to present forensic analysis, surveillance footage, witness statements, autopsy findings and alleged communications from Robinson.

Robinson has not entered a plea, and the hearing will determine whether the case proceeds to a full trial.
