Charlize Tibom, 20, to marry amid terminal leukemia diagnosis
Charlize Tibom, a 20-year-old from Avesta, Sweden, has been diagnosed with incurable acute myeloid leukemia (AML), an aggressive form of blood cancer. After undergoing several intensive treatments, she was informed in early October that no further medical treatments are available and that she likely has only weeks to live.
In response to her diagnosis, Tibom plans to hold a small wedding with her partner, Oscar, and her closest friends and family. While hospital care has concluded, she is currently staying with loved ones to make the most of her remaining time.
Her friends have launched a fundraising effort in hopes of securing additional medical care in other countries. In Sweden, AML is typically treated with chemotherapy and, in some cases, stem cell transplants. While Swedish doctors consult international experts regarding treatment possibilities, Tibom's current prognosis remains terminal.
