Charlotte Hornets rebuild roster following LaMelo Ball trade

The Charlotte Hornets are entering the 2026-27 NBA season with a reconstructed roster following the trade of franchise player LaMelo Ball to the Minnesota Timberwolves. The move, aimed at long-term success and increasing draft capital, saw the Hornets acquire Naz Reid, a 2033 unprotected first-round pick, three second-round picks, and three first-round swaps.

In addition to the Ball trade, the Hornets moved Miles Bridges to the Phoenix Suns in exchange for Grayson Allen and Royce O’Neale. Other notable departures include Dennis Schroder and Tre Mann. To bolster the roster, Charlotte added veterans such as Reid, Allen, and O’Neale to improve defensive toughness, while relying on young talents like Brandon Miller, Kon Knueppel, and rookies Hannes Steinbach and Christian Anderson Jr. to lead the scoring load.

Following a 44-38 season that ended in a Play-In Tournament loss, the front office, led by General Manager Jeff Peterson and Coach Charles Lee, has prioritized salary-cap flexibility and future assets over immediate playoff contention.
