Charlyn Corral wins Ballon d'Or Gerd Müller Trophy as best forward

Mexican forward Charlyn Corral made history at the 2026 Ballon d'Or gala in London, becoming the first Mexican player to receive an individual award. Playing for Pachuca and the Mexican National Team, Corral was awarded the Gerd Müller Trophy, recognizing her as the world's best forward for the season.

Corral's achievement follows an exceptional campaign in which she recorded 49 goals in 49 matches. She shared the top scorer recognition with England's Harry Kane, who received the men's equivalent trophy. During her acceptance speech, Corral expressed immense pride in representing Mexico and highlighted the growing strength of women's football in her country.

Corral also used her platform to recognize compatriot Scarlett Camberos of Club América Femenil, who finished 21st among the 30 nominees for the Ballon d'Or Féminin. The ceremony, held at the London Palladium, also saw Club América Femenil recognized as one of the top five clubs globally, finishing in fourth place.
