Charlyne Brumskine elected President of ECOWAS Court

Liberian jurist Charlyne Brumskine has been elected President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Community Court of Justice. The election took place in Abuja, Nigeria, following the conclusion of the previous college of judges' mandate.

Brumskine will lead the regional court for a four-year term ending in 2030. She succeeds Cape Verdean Ricardo Cláudio Monteiro Gonçalves. Joining her in the new leadership is Désiré Henri Aiaïho of Benin, who was elected Vice-President of the court.

The new college of judges also includes Awa Bah from Gabon, Henrietta Uzoamaka Didigu from Nigeria, and Yaouza Ouro-Sama from Togo. This leadership team is tasked with implementing the court’s 2026–2030 strategic plan, titled ‘Justice 2030’, which aims to improve judicial efficiency, increase the court's visibility, and enhance public trust in regional justice.
