Charrería celebrated as vital Mexican cultural heritage

In celebrations of National Charro Day and the anniversary of charrería's recognition as intangible cultural heritage in Querétaro, experts emphasized the importance of preserving this Mexican tradition.

Alfonso Bernal Romero highlighted the historical and economic impact of charrería, noting its roots in colonial livestock practices and its 2016 inscription on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. He noted that in regions like Puerto Vallarta, the practice serves as a link between rural history and modern tourism.

Guillermo Salinas stressed that charrería is a living cultural manifestation encompassing music, clothing, and values such as discipline and respect for animals. He called on families and institutions to ensure the tradition is passed to younger generations to prevent the loss of its essence as society evolves.
