Charter Boat “Timbuktu” Lands Three Pending State‑Record Fish in Gulf of Mexico
Six anglers boarded Captain Joey Maciasz’s 44‑foot catamaran “Timbuktu” for a 36‑hour offshore bottom‑fishing expedition departing from Port Fourchon, Louisiana, a hub for Gulf of Mexico sport fishing. The rig‑laden waters off the port provide artificial reefs that attract large gamefish. During the trip the crew caught three fish that qualify as pending state records: a 75‑lb cubera snapper, a 109.5‑lb black grouper, and a 25‑lb black trevally (released). In addition they hauled dozens of queen snapper, amberjack and other grouper species, showcasing the productivity of the Gulf’s offshore habitat. The catch has drawn attention from the state’s fishing community as the potential new records could surpass previous bests for each species, highlighting the success of charter‑boat operations in the region.
