Richmond charter boat sinking leaves six missing, one fatality
A charter fishing vessel capsized off the coast of Richmond, British Columbia, in June 2026. The boat, identified as the 2017 Kingfisher 3025 Destination named Big Coast, was found July 6 at a depth of about 150 metres using a remotely operated vehicle.
Ten people were aboard – eight charter guests, the vessel operator and a helper. Four survivors were rescued; one of those, a 28‑year‑old Chinese citizen residing in Seattle, later died in hospital. The remaining six passengers are presumed dead. Victims include citizens of Canada and the United States. The RCMP’s serious‑crime unit is investigating the cause, reviewing statements, video evidence and vessel operations, and assessing specialized recovery options for the wreck.
Families have requested privacy for the victims’ names.
