Alaska charter plane crash kills eight near remote radar site FAST-MOVING

A charter Cessna 441, operated by Security Aviation, crashed on Thursday near the Cape Newenham Long Range Radar Site in western Alaska, killing all eight people on board. The flight, which included two pilots and six passengers, had departed from Anchorage and was approaching its destination around 12:15 p.m. local time when the accident occurred.

The U.S. military confirmed the fatalities, noting that the aircraft was a civilian-contracted flight. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers stated that two civilian employees of the branch were among those on board. U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. Robert Davis described the incident as a “devastating loss for our military family.”

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash. The Alaska Rescue Coordination Center and the Alaska National Guard conducted search and rescue operations in the remote area following the alert.
