Chascomús hosts debate on Pope Leo XIV’s new encyclical
A community debate was held in Chascomús to discuss the recent papal encyclical, ‘Magnifica Humanitas’, published by Pope Leo XIV on May 25. The document focuses on the protection of the human person during the era of artificial intelligence.
During the event, Monsignor Juan Ignacio Liébana, Bishop of Chascomús, drew parallels between the current technological revolution and the Industrial Revolution addressed in Pope Leo XIII’s ‘Rerum Novarum’. The encyclical encourages a shared discernment to guide humanity, presenting a choice between the pursuit of power seen in the Tower of Babel and the collaborative reconstruction of communal walls as seen in Jerusalem.
The text emphasizes that the Christian contribution should focus on building a more human and fraternal society, using synodality to prevent pluralism from descending into disorder.
