Chascomús retail sales decline during Children's Day weekend

Retail activity in Chascomús, Argentina, showed a decline during the recent Children's Day weekend, following a national trend of approximately 2.8% contraction. Matías López, president of the Chascomús Chamber of Commerce, noted that while toy stores saw sharp decreases, electronics sectors experienced slightly more movement, though most sectors reported lower levels than the previous year.

Despite a significant presence of tourists and excursionists in the city, consumer spending remained cautious. Visitors often brought their own food or opted for quick lunches, which failed to sufficiently stimulate the broader commercial sector. López attributed the decline in activity to the loss of purchasing power caused by inflation and expressed concern regarding rising operational costs, specifically electricity bills.
