Chase Adds Lifetime Bonus Restriction to Sapphire Credit Cards

Chase has introduced a new rule that may block the welcome bonus for applicants who currently hold, previously held, or have received a bonus on any Sapphire‑branded cards. The policy considers the number of Sapphire cards opened and closed, as well as other factors, and does not treat the “lifetime” bonus as a permanent entitlement. Data points show mixed outcomes: some cardholders received a new bonus after waiting seven to ten years, while others were denied eligibility despite a four‑to‑seven‑year gap.

Separately, Chase launched the Sapphire Reserve for Business, offering a 200,000‑point welcome bonus after $30,000 spend in the first six months and a 3‑point‑per‑dollar rate on internet and social‑media advertising with no annual cap. The card carries a $795 annual fee and provides access to Sapphire Lounges and other business‑focused perks.
