Chasing Millions film depicts 2004 Northern Bank robbery

The new Irish-Australian film ‘Chasing Millions’ is inspired by the 2004 Northern Bank robbery in Belfast, an audacious heist that cost the National Australia Bank approximately $67 million.

During the robbery, a gang kidnapped the relatives of two bank employees. Following a successful initial theft of over one million pounds, the robbers forced staff to load cash from an underground vault onto trolleys disguised as rubbish. The heist took over two hours to complete. While the IRA was suspected at the time, the case remains unsolved.

The film stars Madeleine Madden as an Australian Federal Police officer investigating the crime, alongside Christopher Eccleston as an Irish detective. Directed by Stephen Burke, the production will screen at the opening night of the Irish Film Festival before its general cinema release.
