CHASS calls for 20% increase in senior high school funding
The Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) has called on the government to increase operational funding for senior high schools by 20 per cent. Speaking at the organization’s 64th annual conference in Ho, CHASS President Rev. Fr. Stephen Owusu Sekyere highlighted that inadequate funding and delays in fund releases have hindered schools' ability to cover essential costs, such as food supplies, examinations, academic materials, and practical lessons.
Rev. Fr. Sekyere also demanded the settlement of outstanding debts owed to creditors from 2021 to 2024, noting that unpaid obligations have left many schools in debt. Beyond operational costs, the president advocated for increased investment in infrastructure, including dormitory and classroom furniture, school buses, and the completion of unfinished school projects.
Regarding technology, CHASS proposed that the government restrict social media access on student tablets to minimize academic distractions.
