CHASS pledges to support sanctions against staff amid school scandals
The Conference of Heads of Second Cycle Schools (CHASS) has pledged to support disciplinary sanctions against staff members found guilty of misconduct in Ghana's senior high schools. During its 64th Annual National Conference in the Volta Region, the association emphasized its commitment to student safety and fair investigations following a series of safeguarding scandals and rising indiscipline among both students and staff.
CHASS leaders, including President Reverend Father Stephen Owusu Sekyere and General Secretary Primus Baro, highlighted significant operational challenges, specifically regarding chronic funding delays. The association reported that insufficient and delayed funds for the Free SHS policy have hindered school operations. They noted that arrears for recurrent grants spanning 2021 to 2024 remain unpaid, contributing to longstanding indebtedness to creditors.
Additionally, the association raised concerns regarding emergency procurement. While school heads were authorized by the Ghana Education Service to urgently procure food items for students, the necessary funds have not yet been released to pay suppliers, placing an undue burden on school administrators.
